Today we are very excited to premiere “Falling From The Sky” from our forthcoming album EDGE OF THE SUN via Stereogum.  It includes Ben Bridwell from Band of Horses on background vocals.

“Falling from the Sky” was written when landing in New Zealand, having read the children’s book “The House in the Night” which has a similar phrasing as the chorus in this song… the song could be about not knowing where life is heading sometimes – there is nostalgia and an attempt to convey the importance of mystery and magic in our lives. Our instincts tell us to take giant leaps, whilst our minds remind us to be more cautious. When we find ourselves truly alone or facing our biggest challenges, it is then that we are most in tune with our true selves and the world around us, or in this case amongst the universe and stars above.” – Joey

Today we are very excited to announce the details of our new record Edge of the Sun, which will be released on April 14th.  After writing in Mexico City, we returned to Tucson to record at Wavelab Studios where Joey, John, Calexico’s own Sergio Mendoza and Craig Schumacher produced the album.  This is the most collaborative work in the band’s history, with guest musicians ranging from Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) and Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses) to Gaby Moreno and members of the Greek instrumental group Takim.  Here is the song “Cumbia de Donde,” which features Carla Morrison:

In other exciting news, we are in the middle of rehearsals and will be playing our first show of the Edge of The Sun tour at Celtic Connections this Sunday.  We have a full European tour in April and May, as well as three German dates already announced for October, including Calexico’s biggest headline show to date in Berlin.  US tour dates will be announced very soon.
